What can discharge indicate?
Nipple discharge may result from hormonal causes, dilation of the milk ducts (duct ectasia) or lesions such as papilloma. Discharge that is one-sided, spontaneous or bloody in particular must always be examined.
Situations that need attention
- Bloody or clear, spontaneous discharge
- Discharge from only one nipple
- Nipple retraction or other nipple changes
- A lump accompanied by discharge
Our approach
The cause is investigated through clinical examination, ultrasound and, when necessary, mammography and hormone tests.
Depending on the cause, medication, monitoring or surgical removal of an intraductal lesion is recommended.
Outcome
- Early identification of the cause
- Ruling out serious disease
- Option of minimally invasive treatment
- Regular follow-up
Don't delay
If you notice discharge, let's clarify the situation with an examination.
