Why does early intervention save lives?
When breast cancer is detected at an early stage, treatment options are much broader and outcomes are more successful. The treatment plan is built through a multidisciplinary approach based on the tumor type, stage and the patient's overall condition.
Signs that warrant a visit
- A new lump in the breast or armpit
- Redness, dimpling or “orange peel” appearance of the skin
- Nipple retraction or discharge
- Change in the shape or size of the breast
- Family history of breast or ovarian cancer
Treatment approach
The diagnosis is confirmed with mammography, ultrasound and, when needed, MRI and biopsy. Results are reviewed together with the oncologist, radiologist and pathologist.
Whenever possible, surgical treatment is performed using breast-conserving and oncoplastic techniques; the need for chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy is determined individually.
