The first days
In the first days after surgery, rest, taking the painkillers prescribed by your doctor and following wound dressing instructions form the foundation of recovery.
Compression garment and movement
A special compression garment helps the tissue settle into the correct shape; how long it must be worn is determined individually depending on the type of surgery. Lifting heavy objects and strenuous arm movements are restricted for a certain period.
Everyday recommendations
Simple rules to help speed up recovery:
- Drink plenty of water and eat a balanced diet
- Avoid smoking
- Keep the wound clean and dry
- Don't miss your follow-up appointments
When should you call your doctor?
If you notice a high temperature, increasing redness, swelling or discharge from the wound, contact your doctor immediately.
