What is fibroadenoma?

Fibroadenoma is the most common benign breast lesion and is seen mainly in young women. It usually feels like a smooth, mobile, painless lump.

How is it detected?

In most cases, a woman feels the lump herself or it is found incidentally during an examination. The diagnosis is confirmed with ultrasound and, when necessary, a biopsy.

Is surgery always necessary?

No. Small fibroadenomas with a typical appearance can be monitored with regular ultrasound follow-up.

  • Rapid growth
  • Large size
  • Pain or discomfort
  • Suspicious imaging features

What should you pay attention to?

Every lump that is found should be evaluated by a specialist. Once fibroadenoma has been diagnosed, it is important not to miss the follow-up examinations your doctor prescribes.
